Carmelo Anthony heads to OKC in blockbuster deal
New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony was dealt to the Oklahoma City Thunder midday Saturday after months of highly publicized trade talks around the league.
The trade package from OKC included Enes Kanter, Doug McDermott and a 2018 second-rounder.
In an ironic twist, Turkish Center Kanter had expressed his love and admiration for Oklahoma City and the Thunder following a twitter tirade by former teammate Kevin Durant just five days prior.
While the trade was an awkward departure for Kanter, Melo should be ecstatic to leave a toxic Knicks organization to join a Thunder squad that is sure to be competitive even in a highly contested Western Conference.
For now his role and how he fits into the scheme in OKC remains a mystery. Having said that, expect Anthony’s efficiency to skyrocket as he will no longer be the alpha on a team that is sure to feature reigning MVP Russell Westbrook and Allstar Paul George.
Carmelo now joins fringe MVP candidate Paul George as the Thunder’s second blockbuster success of the summer.
If leagues newest big three meshes and Anthony plays like the Hoodie Melo he’s shown us all summer, Oklahoma City could truly emerge as dark horse title contenders. Watch out NBA, Thunder is coming.
