Serge Ibaka’s path to the NBA was anything but ordinary. As the third-youngest of 18 children, Ibaka battled poverty and impossible odds in the Republic of the Congo to make his hoops dream a reality.
Since his emergence as one of the most dominant defensive forces in the league with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Congolese big man has transformed himself into a two-way weapon on the Eastern Conference-leading Toronto Raptors.
Although the stretch-four spends most of his nights banging in the low post all across the United States, he still takes time to appreciate his Congolese heritage.
