Vlatko Cančar talks Olympics Experience With Slovenia, Jokic Energy in Early Camp & Jamal Murray
Cančar on Olympics: “Just to represent my country of Slovenia was an honor”
Denver Nuggets forward Vlatko Cančar spoke with the media on his experience playing for the Men’s Slovenian Basketball Team in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Slovenia, led by Mavericks star Luka Doncic, went on an improbable run as they secured a 4th place finish.
“I was fortunate enough to play in the Olympics,” begins Cančar. “It was a great experience. Just to represent my country of Slovenia was an honor. The moment that stuck with me the most was the opening ceremony when Naomi Osaka lit up the fire to start the Olympics. I still get chills now.”
Cančar was asked about reigning MVP Nikola Jokic, and his energy and mindset going into the season.
“Feels like he didn’t stop from last season. He keeps on going and tries to get better day by day. You can see him come in early, being first and doing the work. Once the season starts, his hard work is going to show.”
“It plays a huge part in the culture that we have,” Cančar continued. “If you see our best player working every day, that gets to the other players and they work as hard they can.”
