Lane Kiffin Reacts to Getting Hit By a Golf Ball By Tennessee Fans & Jokes “Moonshine” Wasn’t Thrown
Wild scene in Tennessee as Lane Kiffin and Co. have objects thrown at them
Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin believed it was water under the bridge. He thought the fans had moved on after his departure from Tennessee more than a decade ago. That certainly was not the case on Saturday at Neyland Stadium, as the college football world witnessed one of the wildest series of events in recent memory. After a controversial fourth-down call that went Rebels’ way, fans in the stadium started chucking all kinds of objects at the Ole Miss sideline. From water bottles to golf balls and even empty mustard bottles, the game had to be delayed for about 20 minutes until everything was back in order.
“Number of bottles with some brown stuff in them. I’m not sure. Probably not moonshine. I don’t think they’d waste the moonshine on me,” joked Kiffin.
Kiffin bolted for USC 12 years ago after one season at Tennessee and made his return for the first time as a head coach. The Rebels won the game 31-26.
“Early on, I thought it was a different reception,” said Kiffin. “I think that’s one of the most passionate fanbases in America. You’ve got 100,000 of them together, and things don’t go their way when all that energy is going, and they got upset. It is what it is.”
