Canelo Alvarez and Rocky fielding both successfully made weight for their super middleweight championship bout.

Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34KOs) and Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15KOs) hit the scale on Friday for the official weigh in of their supper middleweight championship bout. Fielding will make the first defense of his WBA title against Alvarez at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

Both fighters weighed in just under the super middleweight limit of 168 pounds. Fielding measured at 167.6 pounds on the scale, while Alvarez read at 167.4 pounds. They showed respect to one another, and shook hands after they engaged in a face off.

“It’s very important for me to make history in my career,” said Alvarez. “That’s what I want. People can criticize this fight all that they want to. But there is no small opponent, there is no easy fight in this sport. I’m ready for this. I want to make history, and take the necessary risks to make that history.”

Alvarez will look to become one of only a few Mexican boxers to hold titles in three weight classes. Some of these names include Julio Cesar Chavez, Juan Manuel Marquez, Erik Morales, and Marco Antonio Barrera. Alvarez previously held titles in the junior middleweight, and middleweight divisions. Now he has his eyes set on the title at super middleweight.
