Chris Arreola on Dillian Whyte PED Situation: ‘You’re playing with someone else’s life.’
Chris Arreola isn’t too happy with fighters who take banned substances.
Chris Arreola strongly believes that the ring is not a place for PED users. And with good reason, as if stepping into the ring isn’t dangerous enough for a fighter’s life already.
Following the news of fellow heavyweight Diilian Whyte’s failed drug test, Arreola voiced his concern with the issue.
“I have no respect for somebody that steps in the ring that does steroids,” said Arreola. “None whatsoever. You’re playing with my life, you’re playing with someone else’s life. Regardless man, if you don’t have the b—s to get in the ring with what you’ve got, and what’s legal; then you don’t belong in the ring. You should get suspended for at least a couple years man.”
During a pre-fight drug test conducted by the United Kingdom Anti-Doping, Whyte tested positive for dianabol, a banned steroid. For uncertain reasons, the UKDA allowed Whyte to proceed with his fight against Oscar Rivas on July 20; which Whyte won by decision.
While Whyte passed his tests administered by the VADA, the UKDA did not notify Rivas and his team; or the VADA of Whyte’s failed drug test.
“You are messing with someone’s life when you’re taking steroids,” said Arreola. “You realize that. You’re going in the ring, 10 oz. gloves, and you get an advantage for taking an illegal substance like that? Come on man.”
