Derrick James went off on Terence Crawford in an exclusive interview with Fanatics View.

Derrick James couldn’t believe his ears when asked about Terence Crawford’s recent comments on the Joe Rogan Podcast. The WBO welterweight champion told Rogan that he’ll go into the Hall of Fame without Errol Spence. But it didn’t end there, as Crawford (35-0, 26KOs) even said Spence (25-0, 21KOs) needs him; more than he needs Spence.

The 2017 Trainer of the Year reacted to the comments towards his fighter by telling Fanatics View “that’s a joke.” In fact, James doesn’t even believe Crawford deserves a fight with Spence.

“He sells out 8,000 people arenas in the hometown, that’s all he gets,” James told Fanatics View. “He goes to (Las) Vegas and sells 8,000 or 10,000. When you think about it, this is not a conversation to be having. He does not deserve the fight. He may be good enough for the fighter’s skill set, but his marketability; they’re not marketing him. They’re not promoting him.”

James likes to note Spence drew a sold-out crowd of 48,000 when he took on Mikey Garcia at the AT&T Stadium in March. He tells Fanatics View that he respects Crawford as a fighter, but his notoriety does not compare with the IBF welterweight champion’s.

“Errol sold over 400,000 pay-per view buys,” said James. “He (Crawford) sold what, 98,000? How does that even compare? Think about it, the money’s not right. He can’t earn his own money. Errol can earn his own money. I like Terence Crawford as a fighter, as an individual. But what I’m saying is, he does not deserve the fight because they are not marketing him; and promoting him.”
