Eddie Hearn took a loss along with Anthony Joshua, but credits Andy Ruiz on his victory.

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has guided Anthony Joshua since his debut. Joshua (22-1, 21KOs) came over to the U.S. as a unified heavyweight champion, and looked to showcase the same skills that made him a star back in the U.K.

But things went towards another direction as he took a shocking TKO loss, and lost his titles against Andy Ruiz (33-1, 22KOs).

“I’d love to stand here now and say it was a terrible camp, and he had these injuries,” said Hearn. “But it”s not true. He won fair and square, Andy Ruiz. And we’re all devastated as a team.”

As devastating as the loss was to Joshua and his team, Hearn is confident that Joshua will bounce back through his work ethic. To Hearn, such a loss can only further fuel up his fighter as a competitor.

“You see him (Joshua) smiling in the ring cause he’s genuinely happy for Andy Ruiz,” said Hearn. “But tomorrow, the day after; and the coming weeks, this is gonna eat him up bad. Great fighters come back and improve. Some fighters never come back the same. The future will show how Anthony Joshua responds.”
