Eddie Hearn stands by Dillian Whyte after he failed a pre-fight drug test for his bout against Oscar Rivas. In a test conducted by the United Kingdom Anti-Doping, Whyte tested positive for dianabol; a banned steroid.

Although Hearn and Whyte received criticism after the bout went on as scheduled, the MatchRoom Boxing promoter says there was nothing unjust with the situation.

“He (Whyte) was asked to attend a hearing, provide all his information,” Hearn told Fanatics View. “Namely the VADA information, who he employed to cover this bout for twelve weeks. All this information was provided to an independent panel, not a MatchRoom Boxing panel. And he was cleared to fight.”

The hearing took place on the same day of the fight, as Hearn tells Fanatics View they found out about the results “just 24 hours before.” Hearn was not present during the hearing, but says he received a call after Whyte was cleared by the British Board of Boxing Control; allowing the fight to go on.

‘It’s important for people to know that a process was followed,” said Hearn. “Not a process that was put together by MatchRoom Boxing, (or) Eddie Hearn. A legal process that was followed by the governing body.”
