Robert Garcia wasn’t sure how much fight Manny Pacquiao had left in him at age 40. Against a young, strong opponent like Keith Thurman; Garcia was certain age would have caught up to him.
But boxing’s only eight-division champion showed he still has it with a victory over “One Time.”
“I just thought at 40, there’s no way he could be as fast, as strong as he was 10 years ago,” Garcia told Fanatics View. “But he proved me wrong. And I was so happy that I was wrong. He looked young, he looked fast, he looked strong. And he’s on top of the world again.”
Pacquiao showed flashes of the fighter he was a decade ago. Through the first six rounds, he sustained a high punch output and utilized his hand speed to tag Thurman. At age 40, he still makes a dangerous opponent for anyone competing at 147.
“He’s in the gym, he’s always training,” said Garcia. “He takes care of himself, he’s dedicated. So that made the big difference.”
