Alabama head coach Nick Saban elaborates on toughest test of the season.

The No.1 team in college football, the Crimson Tide, headed to Death Valley to take on their toughest test all season, the LSU Tigers.

With many LSU fans donning “free Devin White”T-shirts, Alabama came into the game undefeated and averaging 54 points per a game, but they played one of toughest defenses in the nation.

Both of the teams came out scoreless on their first drives, but Alabama reminded us why they are they are one of the most potent offenses in the college football. On Alabama’s second drive, sophomore quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw a 15-yard bullet to sophomore wide receiver Henry Ruggs III for the first score of the game.

Going into the second quarter, Bama’s offense continued to score with one more passing touchdown from Tagovailoa, making the score 9-0. The Tigers’ offense had moments of productivity, but could not find a way to score.

The first interception for Alabama’s offense was thrown by the Bama quarterback in the second quarter. When talking about the interception, Tagovailoa said “that was a good play by the db… I should have never made that decision.”

Other than the interception and a few miscues, Alabama’s head coach Nick Saban said that the team “kept playing and grinding.” Saban called this the “key” to controlling the game.

In the beginning of the second half, star linebacker Devin White, who was suspended for the first half of this game, entered the game and the crowd roared as he entered the field.

White’s presence did not seem to make a notable difference, as the Crimsons’ starting quarterback rolled in for his third touchdown of the game on a 44-yard run to make the score 22-0. With three minutes left in the third quarter, Bama had accounted for 173 yards on the ground and 266 yards through the air.

Alabama’s defense lived up to its reputation, holding the Tigers offense to 84 yards total near the end of the third quarter and scoreless.

The fourth quarter was more of the same as Alabama found the end zone again to make the final score 29-0. Alabama’s defense held LSU’s offense scoreless for the entire game at Tiger Stadium, which was somewhat of a surprise.

Saban said that they really wanted to make a statement this game because of others claiming they had a weak schedule. Saban accomplished many goals tonight, defeating the No.3 team in the country at their home.

While LSU’s defense was not its usual self, they played one of the more consistently, complete teams in recent college football history. Holding Bama’s offense to 29 points is not great, but not horrible either. LSU’s offense on the other hand was the real let down.

For LSU’s offense to not score a single point the entire game is absurd, but it is a testament to how good Alabama really is. They held the Tigers to a 196 total yards of total offense, which was a season low. Saban said one of the factors that contributed to their win was “they didn’t make a lot of explosive plays.”

LSU fans and the team feed off chunk plays and Bama neutralized LSU ability to do that. Alabama’s head coach said it was one of the two things they knew they had to stop going into this game.

With this loss, there is not much LSU can do, within their control, to convince the College Football Playoff Committee that they are worthy of being top four. But who knows? Crazier things have happened.

LSU’s next opponent is Arkansas at Arkansas.
