Jalen Nailor on Pinstripe Bowl win: ‘It was a dream come true.’
Jailen Nailor talks Pinstripe Bowl victory and plan for 2020 season.
Jailen Nailor finished with five receptions and 60 receiving yards, as the Spartans defeated the Deacons 27-21 in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. The Michigan State wide receiver had a short season due to injury, but cherished the victory at the home to one of the greatest teams in sports history.
“It was a dream come true, knowing that Yankee Stadium is one of the best stadiums in the world,” said Nailor. “Just being here, being able to perform; and do what I love. It’s just a surreal feeling.”
The Spartans’ Brian Lewerke completed 26 of 37 passes for a total of 320 yards, and scored a touchdown of his own in the second quarter to give Michigan State the 17-14 lead. At halftime Wake Forest led with a score of 21-20.
After Lewerke found Cody White in the third quarter for a touchdown, the victory was sealed as the Deacons failed to score in the second-half.
“I was really proud of Brian, just knowing how much criticism he gets on social media and stuff,” said Nailor. “He just comes out and works everyday, just like today; he just came out and worked. He put on a show.”
After Nailor suffered a broken foot early in the season, but returned for the Spartans’ final three games. His speed has been a concern following the injury, but hopes to come back stronger in 2020.
“It’s coming back slowly, my speed is coming back,” said Nailor. “My quickness is coming back, twitchiness coming back. So next year stay injury-free, come out explosive; ready to show you guys I could play a whole season.”
