Kentucky’s Mike Edwards on recording his 300th career tackle
On Senior Day for Kentucky, fifth-year player Mike Edwards only needed one tackle on the day to become the 19th player in Kentucky history to record 300 tackles.
Edwards did more than that. Edwards recorded 12 tackles, and he forced two turnovers, with one going back for a score.
He is now the 19th player in Kentucky history to be in the exclusive club, and he’s also only the second defensive back to record that many tackles in program history.
With Edwards’ 300th career tackle, he joined some elite Kentucky company that includes these players like Jim Kovach, Marty Moore, Art Still, and Wesley Woodyard.
“Id’ be lying if I said it wasn’t big, especially as a DB,” Edwards said. “The guys that got that many tackles in the past are good players. To be with that group of guys is big for me.”
Along with making history individually in the 34-23 win over Middle Tennessee State, Edwards and Kentucky have a chance continue the trend with a win in their final game of the season against Lousiville. The Wildcats are 8-3, but with a win over the underdog Cardinals, Kentucky would pick up their most wins (nine) in over 20 years. Last season, Edwards totaled six tackles in a losing effort to Louisville, 44-17. However, Louisville (2-9) is nowhere near the team they were last year without Heisman winner Lamar Jackson. Louisville is dead last in offense in their conference (ACC), which could translate to Edwards adding to his career total in tackles.
