Kevin Durant becomes a one man swat team
When the name Kevin Durant is brought up, the first things that come to mind are a sweet shooting stroke and dangly arms that seem to stretch out for miles. Friday night, Durant seemed determined to instill fear into all those that dare make the poor decision to challenge him at the rim.
In perhaps the best defensive display of his decorated career, the 2017 Finals MVP sent away seven shots and altered countless others. He chased players down from behind, stuffed them at the rim and swatted the ball into the stands with authority.
The lanky forward combined with Splash Brothers Steph Curry and Klay Thompson for 81 of the Warriors points as they slipped past the Pelicans 109-98 for the victory. Here’s a scary thought, dropping 109 points in a game is considered a slow night for the lethally efficient Golden State squad.
Boogie and The Brow left it all on the floor scoring 35 points each and grabbing over 31 rebounds between the two of them. Unfortunately, when you square up to a team the caliber of the Warriors, a two man show’s just not going to cut it.
Although the towering Pelicans duo left the floor with jaw dropping boxscore numbers, DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis simply can’t do it alone. In the NBA, teams gameplay to take your stars out of the game, but when you have no role players to draw the defense or compliment your star’s skillsets, it becomes all to easy to shut down a predictable offense.
New Orleans has stated they’re committed to the twin towers model the San Antonio Spurs once ran in the 2000’s with Tim Duncan and David Robinson, but the game has evolved to the advantage of smaller positionless lineups. Maybe it’s time to ditch the old fashioned approach and modernize their roster as well as their gameplan.
