Tua Tagovailoa Speaks to Media at Alabama Media Day
Tua Tagovailoa is in a much different place going into fall camp this year then he was this past year. Last year, he was just a quarterback trying to improve his game and be ready if he was ever put in the game. Now, he’s coming off a national championship win thanks to his performance in the second half, fighting for the starting quarterback spot for this season.
At the Alabama media days, Tua spoke about how the biggest thing he is trying to work on is his relationship with his teammates. If Tua won that starting position, his role on the team would change drastically. He would now be the main guy on this Alabama team that all the players would look up to. He needs to have a close relationship with all players. Tua has also been trying to help the new players adjust and get them ready to play.
One relationship that is important to Tua is his relationship with Jalen. Two very talented quarterbacks fighting for the starting spot on this team could cause some tension. Not for Jalen and Tua though. These guys are not focused on winning that spot over the other person, they are focused on getting better and helping each other get better so Alabama can be the best they can be.
Tua explained how he will be happy even if he isn’t granted that starting positon. Eric Thomas spoke to the Crimson Tide one afternoon, and that speech stuck out to Tua. Tua explained what Eric said about the difference between a winner, and a beast. We all know Alabama is a winning team. Tua explained how they are more than that. They are beasts according to Eric Thomas’s ideas. Tua said, “beasts don’t complain about what they don’t get or what they can’t get because that is something that will happen in the end result for them.” This could be referencing the completion between Jalen and Tua. The Alabama coaching staff is going to make a decision that will benefit the team the most, even if that means Tua won’t be the first person on that field. But Tua is going to be the beast he is either way and will be there to help the team when his time is ready.
