The Brewers shut down mile-high offense in Colorado to move on to NLCS.

Before the 2018 season, the Cubs drew the best odds to win the National League by a long shot. The Brewers, after some of the biggest moves in the offseason, looked to possibly challenge the Loveable Losers in Chicago. As we all know by now, the Brewers not only won the division over the Cubs on the last day but insured that they would not make it past the Wild Card game.

The Colorado Rockies have a similar story that the Brewers do. The Rockies are coming off of a surprise playoff birth in 2017 looking for improvement. While the Rockies did force a game 163, they lost to the Dodgers and were forced to play the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Against all odds, the ROX shut down the Cubbies in an epic extra-inning battle in North Side of Chicago.

Moving to the first game of the NLDS, both squads were hot coming off big wins against the Cubs. The matchup looked to be one of the biggest offensive series in recent memories. Tons of homers and baserunners for both sides. However, both teams pitching staffs brought their A game. In game one, the Brewers decided to “BullPen”. This means that instead of a starting pitcher, the Brewers sent out relief pitchers every inning. One day after this strategy backfired on the Oakland A’s in New York. Through 8 innings, the Brewers held the Rockies to one hit and no runs. In the 9th inning, the Rockies rallied and tied the game but lost in the 10th inning.

The Rockies would not score again for the rest of the series. For 27 of the 28 innings played in the NLDS, the Rockies were held scoreless. On the other hand, the Brewers look like the team to beat in the National League. Their pitching looks unstoppable and they also have two MVP candidates along with several other All-Stars patroling the field. Whoever comes out of the Braves-Dodgers series has their hands full.
