Red Sox bats stay hot against Kershaw and company to take game 1 in Boston.

After dismantling the Yankees and defending champ Astros, the Red Sox look poised for the Dodgers. Game 1 is a microcosm of the playoffs for the Sox so far. Score early and be clutch late. Tuesday’s match-up between Clayton Kershaw and Chris Sale was touted by some to be the best pitchers duel in the history of the World Series. While I personally think that is a bit of a reach, it definitely is what baseball fans want out of the World Series. The best versus the best. In 2018, that is what we have.

The Red Sox scratched some runs out early off of the shaky Kershaw. However, the Dodgers quickly answered with a homer by reborn Matt Kemp. His solo shot over the monster came in his first-ever at-bat in a World Series. Later, with the game tied at 2 after a Machado RBI single, J.D. Martenez came to the plate. Kershaw by now had shown that he did not have his best stuff. With two on, J.D. gets a slider that did not move an inch right down the middle. Martenez has developed into one of the best hitters in the MLB and it shows here. J.D. crushes the pitch to the deepest part of Fenway off of the 420′ sign in center field. Both runners score and the Sox would not look back.

The biggest moment of the game came in the 7th inning. In a key moment, Alex Corra decided to bring in a pinch hitter with runners on. This turns out to be the best move of the postseason for the rookie manager. Eduardo Nunez sends one over the monster for a 3-run bomb to send the Sox fans into a frenzy. Red Sox end up winning 8-4 in style. The Red Sox look unstoppable at this point and it would be pretty shocking if the Dodgers win the series. But hey that’s why they play the games!
