TCU edge rusher Ben Banogu speaks on pro day and being versatile.

It is that time of the year in the NFL: pro day. For those who didn’t get a chance to go to Indianapolis for the combine, even though defense end Ben Banogu did, players get a chance to showcase their talents at their respective schools.

Banogu, who was a projected first-round pick last year at this time had he declared, put his versatile skills on display. He is long and fast for his six foot three, 250-pound frame. All 32 NFL teams watched the defensive end put up 23 reps on bench and ran a 4.62 40-yard dash. 

When it comes to where he believes he can best help a team position wise, the defensive end sees himself as very “versatile” player for anyone who chooses him.

“I see I can help them anywhere in the front seven,” he said. “Wherever they need me, I can play.”

Banogu has the speed and quickness to play back as a linebacker and has shown he is willing, but most of his experience comes playing on the edge. Although, playing in TCU head coach Gary Patterson’s complex defense, “puts me ahead of the curb” because how detailed and elaborate it is in comparison to other college defenses.

These numbers and his play during his time as a Horned Frog has led him some upcoming personal visits with the Pittsburgh Steelers and and the Denver Broncos. Both the Broncos and the Steelers defense have declined in stature in recent years and we all know games are won at the line of scrimmage.

Banogu is one of the more heavily desired players coming out of TCU this year because of his speed off the edge and his long frame. One of the coaches present at TCU’s pro day was Mike Vrabel, the head coach of the Tennessee Titans, and he had more close interactions with Bangou and other players.
