Chris Woodward on Rangers Honoring Dirk Nowitzki, Pitching Khris Davis like Mike Trout & Drew Smyly
Rangers’ Manager Chris Woodward Spoke With Fanatics View and Media on Honoring Dirk Nowitzki and Pitching Against Khris Davis & the A’s.
After blowing a 6-1 lead against the Athletics on Friday, Rangers’ manager Chris Woodward sat down with Fanatics View and media to discuss the tough loss.
Drew Smyly took the mound for the Rangers, allowing 4 runs through 5 innings of work against the A’s. Woodward spoke on the pitcher’s performance, “I thought he looked good”. “He dominated them for 5 innings”, he added. Although he started strong, Smyly had trouble in the 6th, allowing the first three batters to reach base.
In addition, Woodward spoke on Khris Davis’ big 8th inning homer and the Rangers’ pitching approach going forward.
Woodward told the media, “It’s a mistake we’d like to have back”. “You just have to tip your hat”, he added, “we gotta be a little bit more careful”. The A’s slugger hit his MLB-leading 10th homer to break the tie in the 8th.
Fanatics View asked Woodward regarding the team’s tribute to home-town legend Dirk Nowitzki. The Dallas Mavericks’ icon announced his retirement last week, and was greeted with a warm tribute from the Rangers on the mound. The number ’41’ was painted behind the rubber, honoring Nowitzki and his 21-year legacy in Dallas.
“He’s huge part of this city”, Woodward told Fanatics View on Dirk’s impact on the community. “It’s the least we could do for what he’s brought to the city”, Woodward followed up.
In honor of his retirement, the Rangers embrace the legacy of the long-time Dallas Maverick – Dirk Nowitzki.
