Eddie Hearn calls on Floyd Mayweather to make Gervonta Davis vs. Tevin Farmer
Eddie Hearn offered a proposal for a fight between Gervonta Davis and Tevin Farmer.
Eddie Hearn and Floyd Mayweather are on a different page when it comes to Gervonta Davis and Tevin Farmer. The two super featherweight champions still have yet to settle their ongoing rivalry in the ring. Whether they take shots at each other through social media, or during interviews; there is much anticipation in the potential unification bout.
The MatchRoom Boxing promoter has claimed to make three different offers to Davis’ team, most recently $5 million; but they’ve gone unanswered. Farmer was also unhappy with the recent offer coming from Mayweather promotions, which was about $2 million. However, Hearn has another proposal in mind for reaching a deal with Mayweather.
“So me and Floyd we meet up, and we both put our bid in the envelope,” said Hearn. “And we open it together. And whoever pays the most money for that fight, gets the fight on their platform. Just one fight, you don’t have to sign a long term deal. Just let the fighters earn their money. Tevin Farmer wants that fight. Gervonta Davis wants that fight.”
One of the obstacles in the way of making a deal are the platforms involved. Davis (22-0, 21KOs) is under contract with Showtime, while Farmer (30-4-1, 6KOs) has a deal with DAZN. Hearn and Mayweather would also have to agree on how to settle a purse split. But Hearn is willing to give Davis the bigger share due to his ability to draw the audience.
“If you want to outbid, you’re Floyd “Money” Mayweather,” said Hearn. “I’m just old Eddie Hearn. I ain’t got your kind of money. So let’s go in there, agree to a split beforehand, find a number that everybody’s willing to pay; and say good luck to the fighters. Cause that’s what really matters, the fighters. So let them earn their money.”
