Kristaps Porzingis Displays Shooting Range During First Active Warm-Up Of 2019
Dallas Mavericks stretch-four Kristaps Porzingis hit the court during the first active warm-up session at home with much to showcase.
Deep 2’s with a hand in his face seemed effortless for the 7 foot 3 inch Latvia native. Soon came the around-the-world 3-pointers with much to reveal about how well he has bounced back from his 2018 season ACL tear.
While he may be a comfortable 36 % career 3-pt shooter, the utilization of his outside shot will fit a Mavericks team that is all too familiar with outside scorers of the 7 foot persuasion. Dirk Nowitzki, at the end of his career, shot 38 % from downtown. Currently, while it is still early in his career, Porzingis is on pace to mirror the future Hall of Famer’s 3-point numbers, if not best them due to the growth of the deep-range shot in our current NBA.
Another thing to note is that Porzingis uses a shooting form that many his size tend to gravitate to which is: parallel hips and shoulders, a wider stance, and a shorter jumping height. What also seems to stand out is how he ends his jumper with more of a Stephen Curry goose-neck hand positioning. As he continues to shoot through the session, he shows how consistency is built through the rhythm of the ball movement from pass received to shot taken.
