Mike Minor on Rangers’ starting rotation: ‘We rank in the top.’
Mike Minor sees one of the best rotations among his fellow starters.
With the Rangers making offseason acquisitions to revamp the 2020 starting rotation, Mike Minor can already feel the potential. After signing free agent right-handers Kyle Gibson and Jordan Lyles, the Rangers then acquired two-time Cy Young winner Corey Kluber from the Indians; in exchange for Delino DeShields and Emmanuel Clase.
Pitching was evidently the focus for the organization in hopes of a more competitive season.
“I think pitching’s obviously huge for winning games, or championships; or getting to the playoffs,” said Minor. “So I think if we can all stay healthy, I think we rank in the top; as one of the best rotations. And with only 60 games I think we just keep our foot in the gas, and not let up.”
The other two slots in the rotation are set for the sole lefty Minor, and right-hander Lance Lynn. With opening day approaching, Minor explains the reinforcements have even provided some much needed relief within the rotation and bullpen.
“From last year to this year I just feel like the pressure’s kinda taken off me and Lance,” said Minor. “No offense to the guys that pitched last year. It’s just that we felt like we needed to win those games. You know, I guess to keep ourselves in the playoff race. And now I feel like whoever we have that takes the ball that night is gonna give us a chance. You know, is gonna go deep; take relief off the bullpen.”
