Watch as Cubs closer Craig Kimbrel reacts to Chicago’s combined no-hitter against Dodgers.
Cubs starter Zach Davies threw an impressive 6 innings against LA, leading to a special game for Chicago. Ryan Tepera and Andrew Chafin followed in Davies footsteps setting up the 9th inning for Kimbrel in a no-hit game.
Unaware of the no-hit bid, Kimbrel locked down the game with 3 strikeouts in the 9th.
“I had no clue when I came into the game that we had a no-hitter”, Kimbrel said.
“When Willy [Wilson Contreras] gave me a big fist pump, I knew something was up. Then Tepera ran out there and whispered in my here, he’s like ‘You have no idea what happened!’. Then Javy put me in a headlock, and I knew what pretty fast what just happened.”
Kimbrel also praised Chicago’s dominant bullpen on locking down innings for him in the 9th.
“Those guys have been really good”, he said on Ryan Tepera and Andrew Chafin.
“It seems like for the last two months, If we have the lead and those guys are coming in, their locking it down and giving me the opportunity to close the game.”
