Cora spoke on containing Ohtani, and matching up against Boston’s starter Martin Perez.

“I think obviously you gotta be careful, but at the same time we believe that we can attack and get him out. Kinda like when Trout is playing – we respect what he’s doing but at the same time we prepare to face the opposition, and try to get him out.”

In addition, Cora described how impressive of an athlete Ohtani has demonstrated, being an elite hitter and starting pitcher.

“It has to be very hard to prepare to do both at this level. The workouts, the bullpens, the days in between starts, then prepare to hit. This is the best level in baseball. For him to be successful in doing both, is amazing. I’m actually in awe…”

“We should make a new award for him”, Cora said on Ohtani being too good for MVP honors.

“For the hitters, he’s just a different breed, he’s something different. This is something MLB hasn’t seen since Babe Ruth. He should be in the conversation. The things that he does, the way he’s dominating the game, right now he’s probably the best player in the game…”
