Dennis Smith Jr. clears the runway and takes flight
Dennis Smith put on his moon shoes and bounced out of the building for this high-flying jam. The sequence started off with Mavericks shooting guard Wesley Matthews dribbling the ball downcourt and culminated with a blown defensive coverage that left the basket completely exposed and ready for attack.
Dallas took down Orlando 99-96 and saw the future of their franchise put on an encouraging display of scoring, passing and rebounding. Smith led the Mavericks with 16 points and finished the game with six rebounds and seven assists.
The springy point guard’s athleticism has drawn him comparisons to Allstars Russell Westbrook and Baron Davis. Although his game is reminiscent of the do it all athletic freaks, he will have to learn how to play under control and keep his chin up though adversity.
