Jaylen Brown rips Steph Curry and slams it home
Midway through the first quarter, the Boston Celtics’ Jaylen Brown stripped Steph Curry of the ball and took it the other way for a king sized flush. Brown’s offense has improved by leaps and bounds, but it’s his defense that has sprung Boston to a league leading 94.1 points allowed per game.
With his stifling defense, it feels like every matchup he comes away with another play of the game to add to his defense highlight reel. His growth from season one to season two was to be expected, but no one could have predicted just how big of a jump he’s made this year.
Despite facing a 17 point deficit and dealing with the death of his best friend just one day prior, Brown upped the ante and took charge for the Celtics. By the end of the night, Brown had finished with a team-high 22 points and Boston had overcome Golden State’s lead to escape with victory 92-88.
88 points is the smallest combined total the Warriors have scored when their big four of Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green have taken the floor. Many people questioned the legitimacy of Boston’s 13 game winning streak, but a statement victory over the defending champs, few are left wondering whether the Celtics are pretenders.
When asked by the media if he could see his team playing against Boston in the NBA Finals, face of the franchise Steph Curry even admitted that the Celtics are looking like contenders.
“It’s looking very, very likely right now,” Curry said.
While it’s too early to deem anyone Eastern Conference Finals bound, Boston is quickly making that statement harder and harder to prove. Atlanta is up next for the streaking Celtics and the Hawks gave them fits last time out. Don’t expect an easy win on the road for Boston, but they should come away from the battle with their 15th win in a row.
