Michael Irvin Gives Cowboys Receiver Advice
Hall of Famer Michael Irvin details the advice he gave to Cowboys rookie receiver.
Dallas Cowboys draft pick Michael Gallup received some advice from one of the best Dallas Cowboys receivers to ever wear the historic star, Michael Irvin.
The Hall of Famer stressed that Gallup needs to study the Cowboys’ playbook “right now.” Instead of trying to ball out during training camp, he should focus on learning the playbook inside and out.
“If you are leaving this huddle and you are thinking about what route to run, instead of leaving a huddle and thinking about how I am going to run a route, you already lost,” Irvin said when asked what advice he has given to the 81st pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Irvin also advised Gallup about training camp and having a lot going on off the field. The three-time Super Bowl Champion said training camp is a place where Gallup will be challenged.
“Understand you’re are going to have some rough times,” Irvin said about training camp. “If you understand you are going to have them, then they won’t break you; they will make you.”
The third-round pick from Colorado State has drawn comparisons to the former star wide out Dez Bryant. Both are big, physical, great at catching 50-50 balls and are dangerous with the ball in their hand.
Gallup will bolster a wide out crew that has seen the departure of Dez Bryant and Brice Butler, two of the more taller, outside receivers.
