David Lemieux fails to make weight, fight against Tureano Johnson cancelled off Canelo undercard.
Tureano Johnson speaks on David Lemieux failing to make weight, and still eyes big fights in the middleweight division.
Tureano Johnson (20-2, 14KOs) was set to take on former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (40-4, 34KOs) on the co-main event of Canelo vs. Rocky at the Madison Square Garden in New York. Lemieux, however, failed to make weight for the bout; and the fight was cancelled.
Lemieux was also hospitalized on Friday morning, the same day as the weigh in; due to severe dehydration. Johsnon was ready and looked forward to getting into the ring against Lemieux at the MSG.
“It’s very disappointing, but it is what it is,” said Johnson. “We’re just gonna pack up our bags, go back to training camp, and back to the drawing board. I was excited, and I’m still excited; and prepared to fight anybody. But definitely David Lemieux, we had our eyes set on him. And we were more than prepared to fight David Lemieux.”
Although the fight against Lemieux was cancelled, Johnson still hopes to get in the ring with him; as well as other big names at middleweight.
“Right now David Lemieux is who I have my eyes on,” said Johnson. “But I’ll fight any top middleweight out there today.”
