Robert Garcia details Mikey Garcia’s return and thoughts on Andy Ruiz in a Fanatics View exclusive
Robert Garcia is ready for all comers against Mikey Garcia, and congratulates Andy Ruiz on his upset over Anthony Joshua.
Robert Garcia revealed to Fanatics View that his younger brother and fighter, Mikey Garcia (39-1, 30KOs), is set to return to action by August or September. Mikey looks to bounce back after taking a unanimous decision loss against IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence in March.
The speculation has been a match against former champion Danny Garcia (35-2, 21KOs), though nothing has been confirmed yet.
“We’ll be ready for whatever happens,” said Garcia. “There’s a lot of talk of him fighting Danny Garcia. And if it does happen, we’ll be ready for Danny. If not, maybe we come down to 140 and also look to be in the mix.”
Like many fans and media alike, Garcia was shocked by Andy Ruiz’s TKO victory over Anthony Joshua. Garcia was rooting for Ruiz in the fight, but didn’t picture that kind of outcome.
As an 11-1 underdog, Ruiz pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the sport; while also making history in the process.
“I was so happy when Andy pulled it off because nobody gave him a chance,” said Garcia. “Everybody just treated him like a short, fat boxer that shouldn’t even be in the ring. Now he’s the Mexican heavyweight champion of the world.”
