Auburn’s Third Quarter Surge Leads to Victory Over Ole Miss
After a rough few weeks for Auburn with back to back losses to Mississippi State and Tennessee, the Tigers got their momentum back with a big road victory at Ole Miss, 31-16.
With a score of 10-6 Auburn at halftime, it was anyone’s game going into the second half. Auburn didn’t want any chance of this being a close game and put Ole Miss away handily in the third quarter. Auburn had over 200 yards of offense and scored 21 of their 31 points in the third quarter alone. The Tigers were led by JaTarvious Whitlow who had 170 yards rushing, on 19 attempts, and one touchdown. He would have had two but fumbled the ball in the end zone after a 55 yard run, which was recovered by Anthony Schwartz for the touchdown.
Ole Miss had somewhat of a good day offensively, with 447 total offensive yards. Jordan Ta’amu threw for 324 yards and one touchdown. Only thing the Rebels couldn’t do was convert in the red zone. Ole Miss moved down the field really well, but were stopped in the red zone each time and had to settle for field goals. The Ole Miss offense was struggling without star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf who suffered a season ending injury last week against Arkansas. A.J. Brown really stepped up in his missing place and had 155 receiving yards on 10 catches.
Ole Miss has a much needed bye week coming up to get back on track before facing South Carolina in two weeks in Oxford. Auburn has a tough matchup at home against No. 16 Texas A&M this weekend.
