Kansas defeated Central Michigan, 31-7, on Saturday for their first road win since Sept. 12, 2009. The Jayhawks’ victory snapped an FBS record-long road losing streak of 46 games.

Kansas rode a stellar defensive performance, as they forced six turnovers, along with 125 rushing yards and two scores from freshman halfback Pooka Williams for their first road win this decade, overcoming Central Michigan, 31-7.

All of last season, Kansas only forced nine turnovers. But after just their second game of this new season, the Jayhawks are already two-thirds of the way there.

It was only the third time in the last decade that the Jayhawks forced as many turnovers.

But, better yet, Kansas’ great defensive game turned into easy offense. One of the Jayhawks’ four interceptions was returned for six the other way, putting the nail in the coffin as they went up 28-7 at that point.

It also shortened the field for the offense on many possessions, and the offense capitalized.

As a team, the Jayhawks rushed for 216 yards behind Williams’ career day.

Quarterback Peyton Bender connected with nine different receivers to rack up 130 passing yards and one touchdown throw to Kerr Johnson Jr.

Before Kansas football defeated the Chippewas away from Lawerence, Kansas, many things had not occurred yet.

Take a look back to 10 years ago when Kansas’ record-long losing streak began.

LeBron James was ringless, Drake hadn’t dropped his first studio album yet, Nick Saban had not won a championship with Alabama yet, and Steph Curry had not played a single minute in the NBA. Snapchat was not even created yet.

Needless to say, many things have changed since then.

Now at 1-1, Kansas will welcome in the Rutgers next Saturday at 11 A.M.

The Jayhawks will hope that their historic win will carry over for the rest of the season, and especially for the rest of their road matchups.
