Rolando Romero speaks with Fanatics View on his inspiration as a fighter, recent knockout victory, and future.

Lightweight prospect Rolando Romero (8-0, 7KOs) looks up to Roberto Duran on his rise as a promising fighter. The 23-year-old Romero fight’s under Floyd Mayweather’s stable, Mayweather Promotions.

“The man that was up there, Roberto Duran,” said Romero. “My favorite fighter of all time. Best inside fighter of all time.”

Romero made his debut in December 2016. He has stopped all, but one opponent since his debut. In his last fight, Romero scored a first-round knockout over Nicolas Atilio Velasquez, about one minute into the fight.

“I walked up to him (Velasquez) after,” said Romero. “Go fist bump to make sure ‘you alright?’ His rag was filled with blood (as Velasquez held a rag over his nose). The second he fist bumped me, he let go. And like a liter of blood fell on the ring right there. I was like ‘yea, I f—-d this dude up.'”

Still on the rise in his young career, Romero also has his sights set on capturing a world title sooner rather than later.

“My future bright,” said Romero. “I’ma win a world championship belt by the end of 2020, y’all see.”
