TCU linebacker Ty Summers speaks on performance and mock drafts.

TCU linebacker Ty Summers was one of the bigger names that put his talents on display in front of NFL scouts and former Horned Frogs during his pro day.

While Summers did not participate in every single drill, he did have an exceptional pro day in the drills he was apart of. The TCU graduate showcased his speed and power he holds within his six foot one, 240-pound frame. The hybrid linebacker, defensive lineman posted 27 reps on bench and ran a 4.51 in his 40-yard dash. 

Summers said he is a “perfectionist,” so there are things he obviously wish he did better, but was mostly satisfied with his performance.

“I think it went well,” he said. “Of course, I am a perfectionist, so I always see little areas I know I could have changed or alter to get better.. overall, I think it was a successful day.”

Many of the mock drafts have Summers going in the mid to late rounds, but he said he does not put “too much weight” into that because it is the media interpretation of his play.

Teams should keep Summers on their radar because of his extensive knowledge of the game, playing in one of the more complex defenses in college football, which is led by TCU head coach Gary Patterson. Because Summers played defensive end and linebacker for the Horned Frogs, he was able to “impress” many of the NFL teams he talked to with his understanding of how a defense functions.

One of representatives for the NFL’s Tennessee Titians was Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who had a little more hands on scouting than others. There is connection between defensive players from TCU and the Titans in recent years: Josh Carraway. Carraway, a TCU alum, was drafted by Tennessee in the 2017 NFL Draft. He currently is on the Washington Redskins roster.
