Paulie Malignaggi fired back at the MMA community, while using Conor McGregor as his example.

Paulie Malignaggi will take on Artem Lobov at BKFC 6 on June 22, in a battle of boxing vs. MMA. Leading up to the fight, Lobov’s remarks on the seriousness of boxing as a dangerous sport have struck a nerve on “The Magic Man.”

While he’ll have to wait to get his hands on Lobov for his remarks, Malignaggi took his shots on the MMA community as a whole.

“There is a reason why boxing has more deaths and traumatic brain injuries in one night,” said Malignaggi. “Because we are the most dangerous combat sport. I don’t care how many 360 roundhouse kicks you can do. At the end of the day, you just have to do this; and it’s over.”

Malignaggi tapped on the table in front of him as he gestured the way to bail out of an MMA bout. He also pointed out that boxers are more likely to face criticism for quitting compared to MMA fighters for tapping out to a submission.

To prove his point, Malignaggi mentioned another mixed martial artist whom he has a vendetta with.

“In MMA, it’s the tap machine Conor,” said Malignaggi. “He does it every fight. He’s done it what, three of his last four fights? He’s not “Notorious” McGregor, he’s “Tap out” McGregor. But at the end of the day, he’s still the biggest sport there. So it’s more accepting to save your life.”
