Mark Reynolds has Historic Night at the Plate Driving in 10 in Win
Mark Reynolds bat explodes as he drives in 10 runs for Nationals.
Mark Reynolds is a player who has had to reinvent himself several times in his baseball career. The ten-year veteran has had seasons where he leads the league in strikeouts but averages 30 dingers a season. He has been a valuable player on most teams he joins as well as a good teammate.
The Washington Nationals were in need of some veteran presence on their bench coming into the 2018 season. After yet another 30 homer season for Reynolds, he became a free-agent. Expecting several suitors for his talents, the league was surprised to go through a low activity off-season. All-Star players were not getting offers, so that meant fringe players like Reynolds really struggled to find work.
A couple of weeks into this season, the Washington Nationals finally agreed to sign Mark Reynolds to a Minor League contract. This means there was no guarantee he would even make the team not to mention play on a regular basis. Thanks to a hot bat, Reynolds has found himself in the lineup recently, and he has taken advantage of his opportunities.
Reynolds most significant flaw according to those familiar with him is his lack of success away from the hitter-friendly ballpark in Colorado. His high strikeout rate is also something that scares teams off as well. Reynolds accomplished something Saturday that happens less often than Perfect Games in the Major Leagues. His 10 RBI marks the 15th player in history to achieve this feat. He also becomes the first set of teammates to record at least 8 RBI in a week with Trea Turner’s outburst on Thursday.
Mark Reynolds is a predictable player on the diamond, but sometimes players are worth more than their numbers. In Reynolds case, he is proving this is true with his turn around with the Nationals this season. The team is starting to turn things around, and Reynolds seems to be at the center of things.
