Ohio State Quarterback Justin Fields declared his love for Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, stating “I’ve been watching him since like the 9th grade, he’s the player I admire the most.”
Fields had a whirlwind year, from entering the transfer portal, to not knowing if he’d be eligible to play during the 2019 season upon arriving Ohio State. The former Georgia product stated, “getting to Columbus in January, never would’ve thought I’d be here. Everything happens for a reason.”
Fields had fun while describing his favorite play of the 2019 season, exclaiming it took place during “that team up North game.” Fields returned from the sideline medical tent to thrown an unbelievable 30-yard strike to Garrett Wilson. The sophomore from Georgia was 14 of 25 for 302 yards and 4 touchdowns against the Buckeyes bitter rivals.
“Having that moment was really special for me. It really didn’t hit me, how signature a moment that play was until after the game. Everybody was talking about it. During the game, I was just playing football.”
Fields had a spectacular season, propelling the Buckeyes to a number 2 ranking while throwing 40 touchdowns and only one interception.
The Heisman trophy candidate will look to roll the momentum from his phenomenal regular season into the College Football Playoff.
