Jason McCourty excited for first Super Bowl appearance with Patriots
Jason McCourty speaks on going winless with the Browns, to playing in the Super Bowl with the Patriots.
Nearly 10 years since he made his NFL debut, New England Patriots’ cornerback Jason McCourty had not played one playoff game. In 2018, he even came off a winless season after going 0-16 with the Browns.
“We weren’t able to play obviously, the way we wanted to play,” said McCourty. “And I think moving forward to that offseason, it was more about ‘ok, what is this offseason gonna bring me?’ And ending up here with this opportunity, I’ve just been focused on trying to make the most out of it.”
The Browns then traded McCourty to the Patriots shortly after the 2018 season, and things have taken a significant turn for him since. From winning the first game of the season, advancing through the playoffs to the Super Bowl, and playing with his twin brother Devin.
“God is good, you can’t make this stuff up,” said McCourty. “There’s no way you’re sitting there, for me, at the end of last year; and saying to anyone like ‘hey, come next year I’m gonna be in the Super Bowl.’ You just can’t imagine those things, and that’s why it’s been such a special journey this year.”
McCourty will look to earn his first Super Bowl championship, and do his part to help the Patriots capture their sixth. For McCourty, the opportunity to play in the Super Bowl is a dream.
“As kids, we go to Super Bowl parties,” said McCourty. “And you dream about playing in this game. You think about how many kids are at home, making pizza rolls, and bagel bites, and all type of stuff; watching you play in the Super Bowl.”
