Derek Dietrich talks First Weeks of Camp With New York Yankees & Trying to Make the Roster
Watch as newly-signed Yankee Derek Dietrich speaks on his experience on the new club.
Derek spoke on his performance and work he’s done with the Yankees club so far in spring training.
“A work in progress”, he said. “I would say I’m enjoying being around all the guys. This is one heck of a clubhouse, staff. Very informative, very helpful, solid group. Personally, just trying to get the whole routine going, get the adjustments going. This is my 11th spring training, so I’ve had great springs, I’ve had bad springs. I’ve got off to a good start, I’ve got off to a bad start. So nothing I’m not accustomed but definitely just need work and get things going to opening day.”
In addition, Derek talked about earning his spot on the stacked Yankees roster.
“You just gotta do the best that you absolutely can regardless of what position you’re in. I actually talked to Gary Sanchez the other day, we were joking around a little bit. He’s like ‘I gotta get it going and win the job’. He could’ve been joking, I don’t want to take it out of context. That’s the kind of attitude that you want. Everyone’s trying to do their absolute best to be the best they can for the team. That’s kind of always what I’ve focused on in any position”, he finished.
