Dwane Casey Reacts to LeBron James/Isaiah Stewart Near Brawl, Reveals Stewart Needed 8 Stitches
Detroit Pistons head coach Dwayne Casey spoke to the media after his team’s loss to the LA Lakers. He briefly talked about the game and spent the rest of the time addressing the scuffle involving Lebron James and Isaiah Stewart.
Although his team fought hard, they fell short against the more experienced Lakers. Coach Casey pointed out the size of the Lakers as something that challenged Detroit. The game itself was not a focal point of discussion.
Blood was shed after Isaiah Stewart took an incidental elbow from Lebron James. The contact caused Stewart to require 8 stitches. The Pistons lost focus after this play according to Casey. Stewart had to be restrained in a moment of pure emotion. His emotions eventually got him ejected. The Pistons were undermanned in the size department even before Stewart was ejected. Casey understood what happened was an accident. He was clear that James did not make a dirty play. It is safe to say this play changed the whole complexion of the game.
Going forward, Casey does not think Stewart should face further punishment from the league. He believes his ejection was punishment enough. When asked about their future match-up with the Lakers, Casey said: “I’m worried about Miami.” Casey wants his young team to learn from this situation, but he doesn’t want them to focus all of their energy on it.
