Josh Donaldson Calls Out Gerrit Cole By Name for Doctoring Baseballs & Improved Spin Rate
Watch as former MVP Josh Donaldson shares his thoughts on MLB’s foreign substance scandal.
Following a 9-6 loss to the Yanks, Donaldson had a lot to say regarding MLB’s lack of engaging against illegal substance abuse. According to Donaldson, pitchers around the league are cheating on the mound without punishment.
“To me, this is going to be the next steroids of baseball”, Donaldson told media. “It is cheating, and it is performance enhancing. The only way to get it through, and to get it out of the game, is to get them checked every half inning.”
“Guys are blatantly cheating, and it’s really not even funny”, Donaldson added.
In addition, Donaldson went on to speculate Yanks ace Gerrit Cole’s possible spin rate increase from using illegal substances.
“Is it a coincidence that Gerrit Cole’s spin rate numbers went down yesterday after 4 minor leaguers get suspended for 10 games? Is that possible? Maybe.”
Donaldson also discussed the exponential increase of RPM from the 2017 season to 2021.
“In 2017, there was four pitchers that had a spin rate on their fastball 2400 rpm or more. Now, that’s league average. So think about that.”
