Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki says he “threw something” when Dallas got the 5th overall pick.

When the the 2018 Draft order was decided, Dirk Nowitzki, the cornerstone player for the Mavericks over the last 20 years, was not impressed.

The Dallas Mavericks secured the 5th overall pick after a disastrous season to say the least. One of the reasons Nowitzki was not happy is because the 2017-2018 NBA season for Dallas was tanked to ensure a high draft pick.

After the Mavericks finished the season 24-58, they had the highest probability of earning the 3rd overall pick, so that was stuck in Nowitzki’s head, saying to himself  “what are we going to do with the third pick?” However, they ended up with the 5th pick in the draft and this is where he “threw something” in response to the pick. To sum up his feelings, he said “I wasn’t happy with it.”

Nowitzki says he remains optimistic because, as a team, they have to work with the hand they were dealt.
