With four minutes left in regulation between The Charlotte Hornets and The Washington Wizards, guards Michael Carter-Williams and Tim Frazier got into it following a fairly routing layup. In the aftermath of the short altercation, both players were ejected and because of a weird NBA rule, Wizards’ head coach Scott Brooks got to select a player from Charlotte’s roster to shoot the technical free throws.

If you had to send one player to the line hoping that they’d miss both free throws, who would it be? If you answered Dwight Howard, then much like Washington and fans everywhere, you must have thought this was the obvious answer to a very stupid question.

However, much to everyone but Howard’s surprise, he drained both attempts and then proceeded to blow a little kiss to the Wizards’ bench. The move was as theatrical and petty as we’ve come to known Dwight to be, but then again, so was sending a terrible free throw shooter to the line with the game more than likely out of reach.

Just as you might have expected, the game never swung back in Washington’s favor and they went on to lose by a sizable 133-109 margin. The free throws ultimately meant nothing to the game, but considering his career 56.5 conversion rate from the line, it must have felt nice for Superman to kiss the haters goodnight while tacking on two points to his boxscore.

Howard finished the game with an 18 point 15 rebound double-double and even came away with a pair of blocks and steals. He’s no longer the perennial MVP and Defensive Player of the Year Award Candidate he once was, but Howard has proven he can still make a positive impact in what has been a comeback season of sorts with the Charlotte Hornets.
