Luka Doncic talks NBA All-Star Experience, Dirk Nowitzki & Dwyane Wade’s LeBron James Comparison
Fresh off his first experience with All-Star weekend, Rookie sensation Luka Doncic talked about what it was like participating in the Taco Bell NBA Skills Challenge.
Doncic was able to edge out Los Angeles Laker second-year man Kyle Kuzma but lost in the second round to fellow rookie Trae Young. Doncic told us during the media scrum that it was a great experience being able to be apart of this year’s All-Star activities and hopes for more in the future but he was more tired after the festivities than any other contest this season.
During the first round of the skills challenge against Kyle Kuzma, Doncic launched a half-court shot that went in to finish off the round. Doncic was asked if that was a part of his strategy going into the event.
“I actually had no strategy. I knew if I was in front I was going to shoot a half-court shot,” said Doncic.
Doncic stated that the slam dunk contest was his favorite event that he was not a part of over the All-Star break. It was an event that featured his former teammate Dennis Smith Jr., who the Mavericks traded a couple of weeks ago as part of a seven-player deal that brought Kristaps Porzingis to the Mavericks and sent Dennis Smith Jr., DeAndre Jordan, and Wesley Matthews to the Knicks.
The question was asked about Doncic possibly participating in the dunk contest someday, in which, he quickly said no.
Dirk Nowitzki was also apart of the All-Star weekend festivities but according to Luka, Dirk and him did not get the chance to see each other after the Rising Stars Challenge again until the Three-point contest that Dirk participated in on Saturday Night. The two had different plans over the weekend, which is probably understandable.
The media scrum finished after Luka shared his thoughts on Dwyane Wade’s comments about his passing ability prior to the All-Star Break.
