John Wall stuns Hassan Whiteside with beautiful nutmeg
With a move that’d make Lionel Messi blush, Washington Wizards’ All-Star John Wall reached into his bag of tricks and executed a perfect nutmeg on Hassan Whiteside. The maneuver left the center’s head spinning and even Miami Heat erupted in cheers.
The play was nearly picture perfect for the creative floor general, but he couldn’t finish the layup in traffic on the other end. Fortunately, his teammate Otto Porter Jr. saved the day with a timely two-handed put back jam.
Wall dazzled the crowd with his pinpoint passing and led Washington past the Heat 102-93. His 27 points were enough to lead all scorers on this night, but at 23.9 points per game, sidekick Bradley Beal’s remains Washington’s leading scorer.
Beal hung 26 of his own on Miami as he continues to prove night in and night out just how dangerous of a threat he can be. While he’s a handful to contain on his own, when working in tandem with Wall, they’re almost impossible to stop.
With the emergence of Kelly Oubre Jr. in his third year and the gradual evolution of Otto Porter Jr. into a fringe All-Star, the Wizards are shaping up to be one of the brightest teams in the Eastern Conference. They may not have it all figured out at the moment, but if they ever manage to maximize their talent, they’ll be a nightmare to face in the years to come.
