Rick Carlisle on Luka Doncic Ascension to NBA Stardom & 2nd All-Star Game: “He Captured The World”
Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle spoke to media following 2021 NBA all-star roster annoucement.
Carlisle spoke on Luka Doncic earning a starting nod at the all-star game.
“Well it’s certainly well deserved”, he said. “I had no doubt that he was going to be a starter in the game. It’s great for the organization, it’s great for the team, it’s great for him. We’re early on in what’s gonna be a long and sensational career. Each year he’s gotten better, each year he brings a new tool out of the tool box. We’re obviously very happy for him.
In addition, Carlisle spoke on the legacy of Luka going forward into his career in the NBA.
“I don’t love those conversations. I think it’s important to stay in the moment, stay in the present, go day to day, hour to hour. That’s how Dirk Nowitzki approached it. He had a great love of his process for how he approached the game, how he worked on the game and how he viewed the game. Then you wake up one day and you’re there 21 years and you’ve been a 14 time all-star and all that other kind of stuff.”
Finishing the interview, Carlisle spoke on the incredible talent of Luka Doncic.
“He’s got tremendous swag with the way he plays. He has great magnetism and charisma on the floor. Those kinds of things are coming at you. He captured the world really in his first year and he has not let up on the gas pedal. It’s been great to see, and I’m really happy for him. When you get to that level, everything is competitive. There’s a bunch of guys that want to start in the all-star game every year. Maintaining that position, is a very hard thing to do”, he finished.
