Defensive lineman Ty Summers speaks on being a low recruit coming out of high school.

Two-star recruit Ty Summers was not heavily recruited coming out of high school. He credited his low rating to not being able to play a full season until his senior year of high school.

“I always had injures growing up,” Summers said.

While in high school, Summer was playing at the quarterback position. But when he committed to Texas Christian University, he came to play line backer for the Horned Frogs, not quarterback. The senior Horned Frog moved to defensive line man his junior year.

Summers was not surprised that he was not highly recruited coming out of high school because “I’ve been kind of underestimated my whole life.”

The defensive end added he is thankful to head coach Gary Patterson for giving him the chance to prove himself.

“I’ve always known that I can do more,” Summers said. “And so, I really appreciate that coach P saw that in me and gave me the chance to completely switch sides on the ball and everything. I knew that I could do that myself; I just needed someone to give me the chance.”
