Canelo Alvarez looks to dethrone Rocky Fielding of the super middleweight title with a knockout.
Canelo Alvarez speaks on how he feels at super middleweight, his goal against Rocky Fielding, and having Ryan Garcia in his training camp.
Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34KOs) feels good heading into his fight against Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15KOs) for the WBA super middleweight title at the Madison Square Garden in New York. Alvarez will make his debut at super middleweight, the third weight class of his professional career.
“I feel very good,” said Alvarez. “I feel happy with the training camp we had. And we’ll see on Saturday how I’m feeling.”
Bernard Hopkins, a partner in Golden Boy promotions, predicted that Alvarez will win the fight by fifth round knockout with a body shot. Oscar De La Hoya, the founder of GB, thinks it will come in the ninth round.
“I hope so, I would like to win by knockout,” said Alvarez. “I look to fight my kind of fight, win by knockout; and for the people to celebrate.”
Ryan Gracia (16-0, 13KOs) will fight Braulio Rodriguez (19-4, 17KOs) on Alvarez’s undercard. Garcia, a prospect with GB promotions, has also been training beside Alvarez during his training camp. Alvarez likes what he’s seen from the 20-year-old Garcia.
“He’s (Garcia) very disciplined, and a fast learner,” said Alvarez. “As a team, we like people who are disciplined, can pick up fast, and love to box. And he has it, that’s very important to us.”
