Watch as quarterback Philip Rivers speaks to media, Rivers spoke on competing against long-time friend and rival Drew Brees during training camp.

“It’s always fun to see Drew and all those guys, but to see Drew, we were just telling stories from 15 years ago”, he said. “Crazy how time flies, but it’s cool going up against those guys too. It’s pretty cool, it’s meaningful to me to just know I’m out here with Drew. Not only is he a friend and someone I shared a locker room with 15 years ago, he’s also the all-time leading passer in the history of the game”, he finished.

In addition, Rivers spoke on Melvin Gordon and what his absence from training camp means to the team.

“What he does between the lines, how hard he plays, how hard he runs. Offensive lineman love seeing a guy fighting for every inch, and he’s that way. He sells himself out and throws his body in harms way to protect. He’s also great off the field, he’s always smiling and laughing and cutting up; he’s always around the guys, and i think they appreciate that. We want Melvin back, and what he brings to our offense, and hopefully we’ll see him before too long.”

Rivers also spoke his mind on Melvin’s contract hold-out.

“I wanna always be supportive of your teammate, but at the same time you have to move forward to prepare for the opener and beyond. I know Melvin knows I’m pulling for him, and that means you want for whats best for him, and peace for him in how it all ends, and hopefully that’s right here. Are we better with Melvin? Heck ya. Hopefully it get’s resolved, and both the Chargers and Melvin are happy”, he finished.

Rivers told the media how this year’s Chargers team is an AFC champion caliber team.

“I think we’re in a similar window as we were in from ’06 to ’09 when we won the division 4 years in a row. That doesn’t mean it’s just going to happen, but we are in that window capability wise.”
