Oettinger spoke on his excitement for getting the starting nod.

“The position I’m in is that you gotta be ready for anything, especially this year. Whenever I get the chance to play I’m super excited and happy. Just trying to make the most of every start that I get. I was really excited to have my name called.”

Oettinger also expressed the impact of the Stars coming through for a win against Carolina.

“It was huge”, Oettinger said. “They’re a great team. They have everything you want – a lot of skill, a lot of tough guys, a lot of great defensemen. Top to bottom, they’re a great team. For us to come in here injured and beaten up and show we can beat anyone no matter who’s in our lineup, is a testament to how deep we are, and how great of a team we have.”

Oettinger picked up 41 saves against the Hurricanes offense.

“I love to play against the best players in the world, and I think they have some of those guys over there. To go out there and have fun and compete, and measure where I’m at is always super fun, especially against a team like that.”
