Andriese spoke on his confidence and experience as a starting pitcher and in relief.

“I think I would use my experience”, he told media. “I’ve been able to start, I know the routine for starting role, I know the routine for bullpen role, short inning. Whether It’d be long relief, for 2-3 innings out of the bullpen, just try to attack it the same way. Just go out there, be aggressive, whatever type of scenario or situation I’m put in just try to work through it and be confident.”

In addition, Andriese detailed his pitching routine coming out of Spring Training and heading to the regular season.

“I’d say for the last four of five years, I’d get built up to 5,6 innings in spring training. Whatever the role I’m gonna be in for that season, or atleast the start of the season. That way I’m prepared for if It’s a starting role to go 5 plus innings. It’s easier to go back and cut down the amount of innings. Atleast I can build up to 5 or 6 innings and the last week try to get a couple short ones in to kinda get the mindset right for coming out of the bullpen.”

Andriese also talked about his utility role for Bostons as a starter and coming out of the bullpen.

“To speak confidently, I think the role that I’m in to kinda do the utility pitching role is pretty valuable to have on the team. Someone like me could start if need be, but also bridge the gap between a starter and getting to the back end of the bullpen – that 5th, 6th, 7th inning, multiple innings stuff. I feel like I’ve prepared myself over the years. Just go out there and first of all stay healthy, and then just be confident when I’m on the mound.”
